Obituary of Robert Graether

Loving Husband, Father & Grandfather Robert W. Red Graether, age 78, of Trumbull, died peacefully on Monday, March 29, 2010 in Westminster, CA. Born in Bridgeport on December 28, 1931, he was a son of the late Robert Charles and Georgiana Panton Graether. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea. Red was a graduate of the Central High School class of 1949, where he excelled in baseball and football. He went on to play football with the Highlanders and Sylvan Crest Football Teams in the Connecticut Football League. He was the owner of an electrical contracting business in the local area. He was a member of the IBEW and the National Electrical Contractors Association where he served as a past Chairman of the Connecticut Chapter. He was a chairman on the Board of Trustees for Olivet Congregational Church, and served as chairman of the advisory board of the Salvation Army and was a member of the Bridgeport Rotary Club. Bob was an avid New York Yankees and New York Giants fan and he enjoyed playing tennis with his wife and friends, but most of all he enjoyed time spent with his family and he was always ready with a joke to make you smile. Survivors include his beloved wife of 53 years Mary Lou Sandone Graether, two children, Bob Graether Jr. and his wife Susana and their children Jack and Sophia of Cypress, CA and Mary Ten and her husband Lou and their children Andrew and Alex of Trumbull as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a sister Lillian Wendelin. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, April 8, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Olivet Congregational Church, 2102 Main Street, Bridgeport. Private family burial services will be in East Village Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
