Obituary of Harry Gopian

Harry Gopian, age 88, of Wallingford, beloved husband of Mary Vakel Gopian, died on Thursday, April 29, 2004 at the Regency House of Wallingford after a prolonged illness. The son of the late Kaspar and Mariam Gopoian, he was born on May 13, 1915 in Bridgeport. He was a graduate of Bullard Haven trade school and Warren Harding High School. A retired Steam-Fitter and Master Plumber, Harry had worked for the Remington Arms Company for 33 years. During World War II, he served in the United States Navy and received the rank of Carpenters Mate, Third Class upon his Honorable Discharge in January of 1946. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Harry was an avid reader of World History and was especially proud of his Armenian heritage. He was an active member of the Armenian Church for many years. Harry enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Remington Arms bowling team. He was also a boxing and wrestling fan and participated in both sports at the Boys Club in Bridgeport during his youth.

Harry is survived by his wife, Mary of Wallingford, his son, Alan Gopian and his wife, Holly of Shelton, two grandsons, Bryan and Grant and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two sisters, Catherine and Victoria and a twin brother, Jackie. He will be affectionately remembered by his family as a devoted and caring grandfather, father, husband and uncle. 

Friends may call on Sunday, May 2, 2004 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 3, 2004 at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home and at 10:30 a.m. in the Armenian Church of the Holy Ascension, Trumbull. Interment services with full military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. There will be a wake service on Sunday at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
