Obituary of Joseph A. Chmielewski

U. S. Army Veteran of World War II Joseph Anthony Chmielewski, age 89, of Trumbull, husband of the late Teresa Stevens Chmielewski and former umpire-in-chief of Trumbull Little League, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Masonicare of Newtown, after a brief illness. Born in Bridgeport on January 1, 1922, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph M. Chmielewski and Antonina Dymersky Chmielewski. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Campaign. He drove for the former CR & L Bus Line and retired from Raybestos Manhattan Company of Stratford after more than 25 years of service. He was a past treasurer and Second Vice Commander of the Lt. Raymond Bower Post 1466 of the Catholic War Veterans and served for many years as an usher at St. Theresa's Church in Trumbull. In addition to serving as an umpire with Trumbull Little League, Joseph had played semi-professional football in his earlier days with the Stratford Rockets. Survivors include his children, Barbara T. Conti of Shelton and Kenneth Chmielewski and his wife, Linda, of Milford; three grandchildren, Jennifer Jones and her fiancee, Troy Pivarnik, of Ansonia, Allison Bergstrom and her husband, Adam, of Maryland; and Kristopher Skerenchak and his wife, Kim, of Newtown: three great-grandchildren, Kayla M. Jones, Abigail R. Jones-Pivarnik, and Peightyn Skerenchak; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife, he was pre-deceased by his son-in-law, Richard J. Conti; three sisters, Jean Olcsvary, Helen Surrell and Joan Snider. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa's Church, Main Street, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery.
