Obituary of John W. Anderson

Retired Brookfield Police Chief John W. Anderson died Sunday, May 10, 2009 surrounded by his family. Jack was born in Norwood, MA on December 5, 1938 to the late Carl and Mary (Erker) Anderson and moved to Trumbull, CT with his family in 1951. He was a graduate of Bullard Haven Technical School, the Connecticut State Police Academy and the University of New Haven, where he received his Associates Degree in Law Enforcement. In 1961 Jack married his beloved wife of 48 years, Frances DeBernardo Anderson, and was a devoted father to their three daughters and their husbands, Laurie and Will Warnock of Hampstead, NH, Donna and Gary Suszynski of Woodbury, CT and Mary and Jay Gunzy of Danbury, CT. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Anderson and her husband Bill Otfinoski of Colchester, CT and his sisters-in-law Rosemary Burns, Lucille Ferrer and her husband Albert all of Milford, CT and Carol Zinser and her husband Robert of Brookfield, CT. He treasured his six grandchildren, Chloe, John, Catherine, Victoria, JT and Joey, as well as his six nieces, who will serve as honorary pallbearers at his service. His career in law enforcement began in 1963 when he joined the Connecticut State Police. During his fourteen years of service with the State Police, he worked out of Troops A and G, as an instructor at the Police Academy and as the resident trooper in both Redding and Brookfield. In 1977 he was hired as the first Police Chief in Brookfield, where his term of office spanned twenty-three years until his retirement in 2000. In addition to his many professional affiliations, he was active in the Brookfield Lions Club, Regional Hospice of Brookfield, The American Cancer Society and served on the Brookfield Library Board of Trustees. Jack was an avid outdoorsman and golfer who will be missed by those who love him. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Friday May 15, 2009 at 10:00 am directly in St. Joseph Church, 163 Whisconier Rd., Brookfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4 8 PM at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home 419 White Plains Rd. Trumbull.
