Obituary of Helen Marie Campanaro

Loving Mother & Grandmother Helen M. Cavalier Campanaro, formerly of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Dominick Campanaro, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Friday, March 5th, 2010 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly, Fairfield, with her family by her side. Helen was born in Bridgeport on June 24th, 1912. She was the daughter of the late Antonio and Vincenza Cavalier. Helen was the youngest of 12 sisters and brothers, the late Rose Cook, Erminia Cook, Louis Cavalier, Michael Cavalier, Genevieve Ruggiero, Elinor Minotti, Jean George, Albert Cavalier. She is predeceased by her son, Robert L. Campanaro. She attended St. Augustine School in Bridgeport and later worked for many years as an embroidery and crochet artist for Viscontis of Bridgeport. During World War II and the years that followed, Helen was employed in the Engineering Department of Sikorsky-Chance Vought, as was her husband Dominick. Helen and Dom worked together on the Navy Corsair fighter planes. She and Dom owned two airplanes, and they flew all over the northeast during the 1940s, 1950s, and early 1960s. Helen is survived by her daughter, Helen M. Rodia of Trumbull, her son-in-law, Carl M. Rodia, daughter-in-law, Joyce Campanaro, grandchildren Lori Campanaro, Tina Campanaro Sepot, Diane Campanaro, Becky Rodia Schoenfeld, Cara Rodia Foley, nine great grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Jewish Home for the Elderly for their devoted care during the last six years and especially in the last week of her life. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday March 10, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
