Obituary of John J. Burke

John Joseph (Jack) Burke, age 75, of Trumbull, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2005 at his residence. Born in Carbondale, Pa., he was the son of the late John A. and Anna Lyons Burke. Survivors include his beloved wife, Anne OConnell Burke, three sons, Jack and his wife Debra, of Raleigh, N.C., Michael and his wife Phylis of Bloomington, IL., Patrick of Trumbull, and a daughter, Erin, of New York, NY, a sister Mary C. Powers of Bridgeport, a brother Gerald J. Burke and his wife Sylvia, of Bridgeport, a granddaughter Meredith and several nieces and nephews. A 1947 graduate of Harding High School, he enlisted and served 5 years in the U. S. Marine Corps. Serving during the Korean War, he took part in the landing at Inchon, the liberation of Seoul and the Chosin Reservoir campaign. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.S. in Chemistry, and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. While attending graduate school, he worked on the Dow Corning Fellowship at Mellon Institute. He received his PhD in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh in 1966. He spent 23 years with Stauffer Chemical Company, retiring as Corporate Vice President and General Manager of the Agricultural Chemical Division. He was a member of the Chosin Few USMC, The Gaelic American Club, Sigma Xi, The Housatonic Fly Fishing Association and formerly sang with the Trumbull Melody Men and Coastal Chordsmen. 

Friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, December 30, 2005 at 12:00 noon in Christ the King Church, 4700 Madison Avenue, Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. There will be no calling hours.
