Obituary of Frank V. Giannini

Resident of Shelton Frank V. Giannini, age 82, of Shelton, beloved husband of Pearl Newell Giannini, died on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 in Yale New Haven Hospital. Born in Bridgeport on February 6, 1929, he was a son of the late Frank and Josephine Marconi Giannini. Frank graduated from Warren Harding High School in 1948 and the University of Bridgeport in 1952. He served in the U. S. Army from 1952 to 1954. He was employed by Barnum Financial Group for 56 years as a Senior Account Executive. Franks accomplishments include high school football at Warren Harding High School as quarterback for the 1947 All State team; Captain of the 1947 Harding High baseball team; St. Charles basketball team; college football at the University of Bridgeport 1948-1951, Most Valuable Back 1950; Basketball-four years; baseball-three years and City League softball from 1948-1951 for Bridgeport Beef. During his football coaching career, Frank was instrumental in starting Pop Warner Football in the Town of Stratford in 1962. He coached Stratford P.A.L., the Eagles (10 & 11 years old) 1963-1966, Stratford Jets (14-14 years old) 1967-1975; State Champs 1968, 1969, 1972 and 1974. He traveled to Disney Bowl in Orlando, Florida, the Windy City Bowl in Chicago, Illinois, and other areas including Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, etc. He coached the Trumbull Rangers 1976-1979, State champs in 1979, and the Stratford Indians Little League 1963-1967, which All Star team reached the State finals to a 1-0 loss. In 1971, Frank was president of St. Josephs High School Athletic Association and was instrumental in establishing a football field for the school which was using Trumbull High as their home field. With the help of local contractors and New York University bleachers, home games were then played at their home field at St. Josephs. In 1996, he received the Citizen Award, presented by Stratford Old Timers, and in 2000, the Golden Crown Award, presented by Stratford Old Timers. In addition to his wife, survivors include two children, Dr. Arthur Pistey of New Hampshire and Pamela Scinto of Shelton, a brother Henry Giannini and his wife Lucille of Bridgeport, many nieces and nephews and his pet dog, Josie. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Dan and Guido Giannini and two sisters, Grace Sodoski and Mildred Dobelstein. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Friends may call on Friday from 4-8 p.m. and Saturday morning from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
