Obituary of William A. Varese

Lifelong Bridgeport Resident William A. Varese, age 93, of Monroe, a retired sales representative and former manager for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. with over 30 years of service, died on Sunday, August 16, 2009. Born in Bridgeport, he was a son of the late Joseph D. and Clara Caggiano Varese, and was a lifelong city resident before recently moving to Monroe. A decorated WWII U.S. Army veteran, Mr. Varese had received four bronze service stars, and an additional bronze star for meritorious achievement in connection with military operations at Bastogne, Belgium, a Purple Heart, Presidential Citation Unit badge and a good conduct medal. He was a member of the Met Life Retirees, and in his later years, Bill enjoyed winemaking, playing cards and spending time with the family. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rose Pavia Varese and two sisters, Flora Giarniero and Linda Sisbarro. Survivors include his devoted son, Attorney William J. Varese and his wife Mary Jeanne of Monroe, a brother, Albert Varese and his wife Rosemarie of Bridgeport, two grandchildren, Ashley Varese and William (B.J.) Varese, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the St. Vincent Medical Center ER and ICU for the dedicated care they provided. Funeral Information Funeral service will take place on Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 9 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 10 a.m. in St. Charles Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
