Obituary of Albert J. Varese

September 04, 2009 Bridgeport Resident VARESE- Albert J. Varese age 81, of Bridgeport, passed away in his home on Friday, September 4, 2009 after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Bridgeport to parents Joseph D. Varese and Clara Caggiano Varese, he graduated Harding High Class of 47 and University of Bridgeport Class of 51. During his school years, he worked for First National Stores. He retired in 1996 as Credit and Collection Manager from Dresser Industries in Stratford where he worked for 47 years. Before his stroke in 2004, Al loved to ballroom dance and make wine with his brother, Bill; his nephew, Robert; and friends, George and Leo Onze and Tony Caserta. After his stroke, he took up baking and made his famous muffins every Sunday for family and friends to enjoy. He was a strong family man who adored his four daughters and their families. He was especially proud to be the grandfather of five Eagle Scouts. He is predeceased by his brother, William, and sister-in-law, Rosie; his two sisters, Linda Sisbarro and Flora Giarniero. Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Rosemarie Terlizzi Varese; daughters - Laurel Houle and husband, Mark; Diana Varese; Lucille Hough and husband, Kyle; Annette Willis and husband, Matt; grandchildren Nathaniel Houle and fiancee, Stacy Evans; Sebastian Houle; Jacob and Jordan Kravitz; Nick de la Iglesia and wife, Kelly; Lara Swartley and husband, Mark; Alex de la Iglesia; Henry, Grant, and Troy Willis; two great granddaughters, Emily and Olivia de la Iglesia and many wonderful nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Our grateful thanks for their tender care to the staff and nurses of VNS Hospice Services of Trumbull, the Visiting Nurses of Bridgeport, the 7th Floor Cancer Ward at Bridgeport Hospital, Dr. Lam, Dr. Malefatto, and Dr. Alcedo Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, September 10, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
