Obituary of John Joseph Turechek

Retired Educator John Joseph Turechek, age 70, of Trumbull, died on Saturday, December 17, 2005 at St. Vincent Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Stratford, he was a son of the late Francis and Rose Ugolik Turechek. He was a member of the Stratford High School Class of 1953 and received a bachelors degree in Science and Math and a masters degree in Mathematics from New Haven State Teachers College. He received his sixth year certificate from Fairfield University. Mr. Turechek taught at Johnson Junior High School, served as Vice Principal and Principal at Central Catholic High School, and taught and served as Math Department Chairman at Bunnell High School. He was an adjunct professor at Fairifeld University from 1983-2004. Mr. Turechek also was worked at Milford Camera Shop as a salesman and camera repairman and was a partner in Colour Graphics Inc. of Stamford with friends Bob and Pat Silk. Mr. Turechek was a past president of SEA and negotiated the first teachers contract in Stratford in 1965 which was the first contract in Connecticut and the second in the nation. He was a scoutmaster and committee chair for Troop 68 Boys Scouts of America, was a Life Scout and earned the Wood Badge and Silver Beaver Award. He was an avid camper and naturalist. Mr. Turechek served as treasurer of Healthy Hearts Club at St. Vincent Medical Center and a trustee at Long Hill United Methodist Church. He was a member of the St. Theresas Bowling League, and the Tashua Knolls Senior Mens Club. Survivors include his beloved wife of 40 years, Sarah Baird Turechek, two sons, Mark and his girlfriend, Katie Schomaker and David and his wife Stacey and their two daughters, Taylor Anne and McKenna Baird Turechek who brought great joy to his life, two brothers, Frank Turechek and his wife Beverly of Stratford and William Turechek of the Villages , Florida, a sister, Rosalie Higgins of Renton, Washington, sister in law Judith Baird Higgs and her good friend John Croswell and sister in law Marcia Baird Graham and her husband Bill, with whom he spent nine years doing nothing on Cuttyhunk Island. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the Long Hill United Methodist Church, 6358 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Long Hill Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull. Directions to Church: From Merritt Parkway North-Exit 48-take left at end of exit-church is approx. 3 miles on right hand side. From Merritt Parkway South-Exit 48-take right at end of exit-church is approx. 3 miles on right hand side.
