Obituary of Helen H. Tucker

Resident of Westport Helen Harwell Tucker, age 83, of Westport, beloved wife of Gardiner L. Tucker, died on July 29, 2008 at the Jewish Home for the Elderly. Born in Tampa, Florida on April 14, 1925, she was daughter of the late Walter and Susan Merkel Harwell. She attended Duke University and University of Tampa. She worked for the Jackson Grain Company in Tampa, Florida and the economics department at Columbia University in New York City. In addition to her husband survivors include her daughter, Patricia L. (Trileigh) Tucker of Seattle, Washington, two sons, Gardiner L. Tucker, Jr. and his wife Marcie of Longmont, Colorado, and James B. Tucker and his wife Monica of Trumbull, Connecticut, a brother, Anderson O. Harwell and his wife Mary of Raleigh, North Carolina, and four grandchildren, Ryan J., Leah R., Samuel N. and Anna K. Tucker all of Trumbull. She was predeceased by two brothers, Walter L. Harwell, Jr. and Edward M. Harwell. Helen was loving, selfless, generous and giving. She loved children. To know her was to love her. She was a true Christian. She enjoyed sharing the beach; friendship in a game of bridge. Even in her illness, if she was given something, she would try to give it away to someone else. Helen will be remembered always for her gift of hospitality and Southern charm. She always made everyone feel unique and special. Her love for her husband, children and her grandchildren will be deeply treasured. The family would like to thank the staff of the Jewish Home for the Elderly as well as her two dear companions for their kind and gentle care of Helen. They also wish to thank the staff of Carolton Convalescent Hospital for their compassionate care. Funeral Information Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. directly in Calvary Evangelical Free Church, 498 White Plains Rd., Trumbull by Rt. Rev. Thaddeus Barnum of the Church of the Apostles. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
