Obituary of Maria Gentile

Maria Colucci Gentile, age 97, of Trumbull passed away peacefully into the hands of the Lord with her family by her side on Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis P. Gentile. Born in Bridgeport, on December 15, 1916, she was a devoted daughter of the late John and Grace Basta Colucci. Mrs. Gentile was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft for over 30 years, retiring as an assistant in the blueprint planning department. She was a longtime parishioner of the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Stratford and St. Theresa Church in Trumbull. She is survived by her devoted daughter and caregiver, Lois Grace Gentile of Trumbull, a sister, Pauline Iannarone of Cheshire, two loving nieces, Joan Valenti and her husband Brian of Cheshire and Jody Gentile Antosh, her devoted sister-in-law, Eleanor Gentile both of Shelton, as well as many other nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, Mario Colucci and a sister, Sylvia Affannato. Perfection was her middle name when it came to anything she pursued. Baking cookies and pies to perfection for family functions and for friends and especially during the holidays gave her so much joy and pleasure. She was a gifted and talented seamstress; everything she made was stitched to perfection. The most important attribute of all was her kind heart, sincerity, generosity and genuine willingness to lend a helping hand to serve others in any way possible. She enjoyed traveling, picking apples in the fall and a occasional trip to New York City with family and friends to see a Broadway musical. She fulfilled her dream of visiting Australia. Each day with her rosaries in hand, Maria was a great faithful prayer warrior to all who needed an answered prayer. Her family would like to thank all those involved in her care, for their patience, love and expertise to continually help maintain her quality of life for so many years; Dr. Raymond Keogh, Dr. Robert Fishman and the many capable specialists that were involved in her care. The staff, nurses and P.T. specialists at The Watermark Rehabilitation Center and Gentiva Home Health Care Agency and to those who helped take care of Maria at home; recently Margarita and Nydia and especially Barbara for the many years of devoted love toward Maria. God Bless you all! She will be dearly missed, but her love will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
