Obituary of Harry Seymour

Bridgeport Resident Dr. Harry Seymour Jr., age 83, of Bridgeport, retired chairman of the Elementary Education Department at the University of Bridgeport, died on Monday, July 7, 2008 in St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Macomb, Illinois on May 24, 1925, he was a son of the late Harry Sr. and Elsie (Woods) Seymour and was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant from the U. S. Air Force, and also served in the Coast Guard during World War II. He earned his PhD in Philosophy from Southern Illinois University and was the founder and editor of the Seymour Sentinel, the family newspaper. Dr. Seymour was a devoted parishioner of St. Augustine Parish where he served many years as an usher. He was a member of the Ethics Board for the City of Bridgeport, an amateur ham operator, an avid gardener and also enjoyed traveling. But, his greatest joy was spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren who will always fondly remember Saturday mornings in which his home was always open to his family, friends and neighbors for breakfast. Survivors include his beloved wife of 64 years, Marietta Azzara Seymour, four devoted children, Nannette Cristino of Bridgeport, Vicki Lee Brown and her husband Richard E. Brown III of Middletown, Terry Seymour and his wife Candice of New York, NY and Allan Dale Seymour and his wife Maryjane of Trumbull, a daughter-in-law, Beverly Seymour of Stratford, brother-in-law, Vincent Azzara and his wife Tillie of Toms River, NJ, 23 grandchildren, three of whom are currently serving in the Armed Forces, Christian Seymour, U.S. Navy, Terence Seymour, U.S. Navy and Sgt. Joshua D. A. Seymour, U.S. Army, Iraq, 14 great grandchildren as well as several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was pre-deceased by a son, Danny Seymour and a granddaughter, PV2 Cheyenne Marietta Seymour. Funeral Information Friends are invited to meet directly in the Cathedral of St. Augustine, 359 Washington Ave., Bridgeport on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
