Obituary of Nicholas Sewack

U. S. Navy Veteran of World War II Nicholas Sewack, age 88, of Ormond Beach, Florida and formerly of Stratford, died on Wednesday, November 4, 2009. Born in Jessup, PA on April 11, 1921, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary Metro Sivak and was a retired employee of Remington Arms. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he joined the Navy immediately after the attack on Pearl Harbor and served until the end of the war as a signalman aboard the Battleship U.S.S. Washington, the only U.S. battleship in World War II to sink an enemy battleship. He enjoyed going to flea markets and tinkering with his treasures. He would rather repair and improve something than buy a new one. He was especially fond of working on bicycles, motors and all types of appliances. He was predeceased by his first wife Pauline Maceyko Sewack and 11 brothers and sisters. Survivors include his beloved wife of 31 years Bertha Ratzenberger Sewack, two children, Joseph Sewack and his wife Linda of Shelton and Nichola Lugris and her husband Anthony of Post Falls ID, three stepchildren, Martha Darcy and her husband Mark of Bridgeport, John Ratzenberger of CA and Elizabeth Petrocelli Falanga and her husband Frank of Shelton, grandchildren Wendy Sue Sewack, Tara Petrocelli, Christopher and Michael Guay and James and Nina Ratzenberger, three great grandchildren, a sister Pauline Solusky and her husband Joseph of Shelton as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral Information Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 10:30 a.m. in St. John Byzantine Catholic Church, Trumbull. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Johns Cemetery, Stratford. Friends and relatives may call on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
