Obituary of John A. Schmidlin

Retired Bridgeport Fire Chief John A. Schmidlin, age 89, of Bridgeport, died on Thursday, January 26, 2006 in St. Joseph Manor. Born in Bridgeport on April 21, 1916, he was a son of the late Albert and Mabel Breene Schmidlin and a lifelong city resident. A U. S. Army veteran, he served with the 82nd Airborne Division in World War II. He was a firefighter with the city of Bridgeport for 47 years, retiring as the fire chief. Mr. Schmidlin was a member of B. A. R. F. and the Holy Name Society at St. Patrick Church. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Ann Marie Santossio Schmidlin and three sisters, Mildred Redman, Ellen Aubin and Catherine Collimore. Survivors include a son, Gary Schmidlin and his wife, Sandra of Shelton, two daughters, Cynthia Schmidlin of Leesburg, Virginia and Sheri Turechek and her husband, David of Shelton, a brother, Harold Schmidlin of Bridgeport, Indiana, three grandchildren, Luke, Bonnie and Zachary whom he truly enjoyed spending time with, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 30, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment with military honors will follow in the Garden Mausoleum of St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
