Obituary of Tadeusz Sadlo

Bridgeport Resident Tadeusz Ted Sadlo, of Bridgeport, passed away at his home on September 5, 2008. He was 88 years old. Ted was born on December 21, 1919 in Wysokie, Lubelslcie, Poland, the oldest of three boys of Stanislaw and Helena (Frasunek) Sadlo. Ted joined the Polish Army at the age of 18 and ascended to the level of Lieutenant. During World War II, he was interred at Miranda de Ebro prison camp (Spain).He was also wounded while fighting in a Polish tank squadron under the authority of the British Crown. It was in this capacity that he met his wife, Leah Layton, of Chesterfield Derbyshire, England, who was serving as a cook for the English forces. Ted and Leah were married in England in 1947 and immigrated to the United States in 1948. The Sadlo's lived in Niagara Falls, New York where Ted was a volunteer fire fighter and employed as a laboratory technician for Hooker Chemical Research Center. He later transferred to Hookers Grand Island (New York) facility to work as a laboratory technician. Ted translated literature from Polish and Russian into English for both the Hooker Chemical Corp. and the American Chemical Society. After Leahs death in 1969, Ted relocated to Bridgeport, Connecticut and worked for Bridgeport Machines until his retirement in 1985. Ted was a long time member of the Polish Army Veterans Association of America. His hobbies included painting landscapes, gardening, playing the organ, and playing along with Jeopardy! He is survived by his two children and a daughter-in-law: Susan (Sadlo) Iannucci of Bridgeport, and Roger and Judith (Flack) Sadlo of Oregon House, CA. He also leaves behind three grandchildren, Leah Marie Iannucci of CT and Elisa and Daniel Sadlo both of CA. Ted was predeceased by both his parents and his two younger brothers, Mieczyslaw and Slawomir of Poland as well as his wife of 22 years Leah, Layton Sadlo. The Sadlo family would like to express their appreciation for the kind hearts of Hospice at Home, a division of the Visiting Nurse Association. The family would also like to thank Augostino Scafidi for his time and the careful attention shown to Ted during his final weeks. Funeral Information Prayer services will take place on Wednesday September 10, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may call on Wednesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
