Obituary of Beatrice Boucher

Nichols Resident Beatrice Watcke Boucher, 87, loving wife of the late Robert J. Boucher and resident of Nichols for 47 years died Wednesday June 10th at her home. Born in Bridgeport on May 16, 1923, she grew up in Stratford and lived there until her marriage in 1955. The only child of the late Mabel and Louis Watcke, Beatrice graduated from Stratford High School and was a graduate of Russell Sage College where she received a Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and Columbia University where she was awarded a Masters Degree in Public Health and Nutrition. During her years at Stratford High School she excelled at music participating in the choir and learning to play the trumpet, piano, and the accordion which earned her the nickname Squeeze. She served in the U.S. Army during World War II at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Aurora, Colorado and Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant. Following the war, she worked for the State of New York as a Nutrition Consultant and at the time of her marriage worked as a Therapeutic Dietician at Bridgeport Hospital. After raising her children, she worked at various schools in the Trumbull school system as a media consultant. After her retirement in 1989, she stayed active playing bridge with her friends and volunteering at the FEROLETO Children's Development Center and the Center for Women and Families. She was a communicant at St. Catherine of Siena Church and an active member of the Ladies Guild. She was an active member of the Russell Sage College Alumnae Association and the Trumbull Womens Club. She is survived by her two sons, Robert L. Boucher and his wife Rosalie of Norwalk, and Craig J. Boucher and his wife Mary of Simsbury, and her daughter Margaret A. Shapiro and her husband Gary of North Granby. She is also survived by four grandchildren Rachel and Rebecca Boucher of Simsbury and twins Robert and Isabella Boucher of Norwalk. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Monday, June 14, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-7 p.m.
