Obituary of Captain Richard Warren Ridington

September 12, 2011 Captain Richard Warren Ridington, aged 88, of Shelton, Connecticut, on September 12, 2011. A native of Conshohocken, Pennsylvania, he married Alice Ann Corrigan in Fairfield on June 19, 1948. He graduated from The United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, served on Liberty Ships during World War II, as chief officer for the U.S.S. Forrestal's sea trials, and as navigator for the S.S. United States' Blue Riband-winning crossings of the Atlantic Ocean. His wife, Alice Ann, died in 2009; his daughter, Claudia, in 1991; and his brother, Robert Lawrence Ridington, in 1953. He is survived by his brothers, Orrin Wilson Ridington, Sr. and Morgan Thomas Ridington, Sr.; his son, Richard, Jr.; and his sons partner, Rhonda Mattern. Funeral Information Services will be held at Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Donations Information Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Salvation Army.
