Obituary of Helen Y. Porter

Devoted Mother and Grandmother Helen Yeskovich Porter, age 93, beloved wife of the late William R. Porter, Jr., died peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2014 in her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in New Britain on January 29, 1921, daughter of the late Boleslaw and Theresa Yeskovich. With the support, and love of her family, Helen was proud to be the first in her family to graduate from the St. Francis School of Nursing in Hartford. As a Registered Nurse, Helen practiced at Griffin Hospital for many years before her retirement. She possessed a love of skiing, which has been passed down to her grandchildren. Helen was a member of the Pinewood Lake Association and Long Hill Garden Club, Helen enjoyed gardening and tending to her yard. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Survivors include her loving children, Bill Porter III and his wife Patricia of VT, John Porter and his wife Juliann of Trumbull, and Mary Anne Persons and her husband Robert of AZ; sister, Virginia Yeskovich of Newington; five cherished grandchildren, Maureen, James and Joseph Porter and Alana and Bella Persons, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant son, her brother, Lt. Col. Henry Robert Yeskovich, and her sister, Sophia Valenta. Funeral Information A Memorial Mass celebrating her life will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. directly in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Inurnment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
