Obituary of James J. Gallagher

Bridgeport Police Officer James John Gallagher, Sr., beloved and devoted husband of Louise Karoli Gallagher, passed on to be with our Lord on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 in Delray Medical Center, Delray Beach, FL with his loving family by his side. Jim was the youngest of five children, born on November 24, 1945 in Bridgeport, CT to the late Eugene Michael and Marion Holland Gallagher. Jim was a 1959 graduate of St. Ambrose Catholic School, as well as a 1963 graduate of Notre Dame Boys Catholic High School. Jim joined the Bridgeport Police Department in April 1968. He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on April 18, 1989. Jim served as President of the Bridgeport Police Union Local 1159 from October 1992 to October 1998. He retired from the Police Department on May 19, 1999 after 31 years of dedicated service to the department and to the citizens of Bridgeport. Jims first wife, his beloved Beverly Polson Gallagher pre-deceased him in October of 1989. He is survived by his loving second wife Weeze, as well as his devoted son, James Gallagher, Jr., Major USAF, daughter-in-law Deanna and cherished grandchildren, James C., Kevin M. and Kathryn B. Gallagher, all of Biloxi, MS. Jim also leaves behind his much loved siblings, Marion Gallagher Kindle and her husband Ed of Southbury, William Gallagher, Eugene Gallagher and his wife Marilyn, all of Stratford and Timothy Gallagher of Bridgeport. Jim shall be forever missed by his Golden Retriever, Amber and Pug, Oliver, a/k/a: Knucklehead. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Monday May 18, 2009 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Andrew Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
