Obituary of Ernest A. Petrucciano
U.S. Army Veteran
Ernest Ernie A. Petrucciano, age 75, of Trumbull and formerly of Bridgeport, died peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2008 in St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on August 23, 1932, he was a son of the late Albert and Catherine Fascio Petrucciano. A U.S. Army veteran, Ernie was a retired employee for the State of Connecticut Sheriffs Department. The Duke as Ernie was known made all star teams in basketball, baseball and softball. At the middle Street Boys Club, Ernie played with the 85 pound champions who played in Madison Square Garden and the Boston Garden. He followed that up at Central High School winning the Connecticut State Championship and the New England Championship which was played at the Boston Garden. He was a first team all star on both teams. He stared at Arnold College taking the basketball team to Indianapolis for the Division II Collegiate Final. While serving his country in Germany he also achieved first team honors in basketball and baseball. After playing at Quinnipiac College he became honored on the Hall of Fame Team. Ernie was also honored by the Greater Bridgeport Old Timers Athletic Association for his athletic skill, social and community services. Ernies athletic skill paralleled his journey through life. He excelled in every sport and social endeavor. Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years, Carmella Tornabene Petrucciano, a loving son Ernest (Ernie) L. Petrucciano and his wife Michele of Shelton, two cherished granddaughters, Danielle and Briana as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Ciro and Anthony Veneruso and a sister Mary Pettinelli. Funeral services will take place on Monday June 2, 2008 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Shine, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Mountain Grove Cemetery of Easton. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-7 p.m.
