Obituary of Selestino Pina “Perry” Pereira

Monroe Resident Selestino Pina Perry Pereira, age 83, of Monroe passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2010 in St. Vincents Medical Center. Born in Hudson, MA on February 6, 1927, he was an only son of the late Jose and Isabel Pina Pereira. Mr. Pereira graduated from Bassick High School in 1945 with second honors and was the valedictorian at Bullard Havens Technical School class of 1950. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he served as a Staff Sargeant in the 752nd Tank Battalion 88th Blue Devils Division, 5th Army Headquaters Company in Cormons, Italy. Mr. Pereira was a tool, die and mold maker for General Electric with 36 years of service. He was a member of VFW Post #10106 in Monroe and Post #10059 in Trumbull, the American legion Post #176, Monroe, the G.E. Quarter Century Club, and the Fairfield League of Yankee Radio Controllers (FLYRC). Perry is survived by his beloved wife Lucy Del Vecchio Pereira with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Their years together were filled with many wonderful vacations and their love of ballroom dancing. Perry was an avid photographer and chronicled every family event with marvelous photos. One of his passions was tending his bountiful vegetable gardens and his many bird feeders. Perry could often be found puttering around in his workshop fixing toys and many small gadgets. In addition to his wife, he is survived by, his son Darryl S. Pereira and his wife Debra of Monroe, his daughter, Mary Lou Ballingham of Stratford, three sisters, Selvina Koczy of Monroe and Laurentina Lydem, of Stratford and Sister Theresa Stephen of MA and four grandsons who he adored more than anything, Matthew Ballingham and his wife Brenda, Jason Ballingham, Cody and Dean Pereira. Funeral Information Funeral Services will take place on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in St. Stephen Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call on Monday from 4-8 p.m.
