Obituary of Gilberto Paolini

Dedicated Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother Dr. Gilberto Paolini, Professor Emeritus at Tulane University, age 83, of Easton, beloved husband of Dr. Claire J. Landro Paolini, died peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2012, with his family by his side at St. Vincents Medical Center. Born on December 22, 1928, in San Pio di Fontecchio, Italy, he was a son of the late Giovanni Paolini and Assunta Angela Turavani Paolini. A U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force Reserve veteran of the Korean War, Dr. Paolini earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Buffalo. Dr. Paolini retired as Professor Emeritus from Tulane University, New Orleans, LA, with 30 years of dedicated service. He authored many scholarly books and articles throughout his career. One of his greatest achievements was when he was knighted by the King of Spain with the Cross of Isabel the Catholic. Dr. Paolini was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Church, Fairfield, where he was a lector, Eucharistic minister and a former member of the parish council. He was a Third and Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in Council 11077 at Our Lady of the Assumption Church and a member of the American Legion Post 160, Easton. But above all he was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and brother who will be truly missed. In addition to his devoted wife of 51 years, Dr. Claire J. Paolini, survivors include two loving children, a daughter, Angela P. Ellard and her husband George of Washington, DC; a son, John F. Paolini and his wife Eva Lepisto of Toulouse, France; three cherished grandchildren, Christopher Holden Paolini, Isabel Marie Paolini and Dominic Lucas Paolini; and a brother, Erzenovicco Paolini of Buffalo, NY. He was predeceased by a sister, Flora Paolini. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff of PriMed as well as those of St. Vincents Medical Center and the Jewish Home for the Elderly for all of their dedicated care and compassion during Gilbertos time of need. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. directly in Our Lady of the Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will take place in the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Cheektowaga, New York. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
