Obituary of Matthew Mirto
U. S. Army Veteran of World War II
Matthew Mirto, Sr., age 81, of Shelton, a retired truck driver for Hallamore Trucking, died on Friday, January 13, 2006 at St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Stratford on August 14, 1924, he was a son of the late John and Maria Carotta Mirto. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 598th Motor Ambulance Company in the European, African and Middle Eastern Theatre Campaigns. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local #191. Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Yuhasz Mirto, two sons, Matthew Mirto, Jr. and his wife, Lorraine and John Mirto, all of Huntington, a step-daughter, Dawn Vasquez of Bridgeport, a step-son, Stephen Plude of Stratford, a sister, Perina (Pat) Torreso of Stratford, two grandchildren, Matthew Mirto III and his wife, Jennifer, Wendy Ann Hiltz and her husband, Michael, great grandchildren, Matthew John Mirto, Jack Thomas Mirto and Peter and Sarah Hiltz, adopted granddaughters, Dawn Diaz and Dania Menenger and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by two brothers, Peter and Ralph Mirto and three sisters, Angelina Buccieri, Theresa Cioffari and Carmela Burdo. Funeral Information
Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 16, 2006 at 8:00 a.m. from the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 9:00 a.m. in St. James Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in the spring at Lawn Cemetery, Huntington. Friends may call on Sunday from 3-7 p.m. Donations Information
