Obituary of William G. Micinilio

A Lifelong Bridgeport Resident William G. Micinilio, age 87, of Bridgeport, loving husband of the late, Joan Meehan Micinilio, died peacefully on Saturday, May 12, 2012 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bridgeport on May 31, 1924, he was a son of the late Arcangelo and Antoinette Basso Micinilio. He received his bachelors degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1954, and in 2004 was honored as a Golden Knight of the University for the 50th anniversary of his graduation. A lifelong city resident, he was a fixture at Seaside Park, where everyone knew him as Beach Boy Bill. Bill was a retired Aquatic Director for the City of Bridgeport. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of VFW Post 145. Bill was a tireless volunteer who served his community; he was a member of the Thomas Hooker Parents Club for 25 years, the City of Bridgeport Citizens Union and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program. He also taught swim classes for the disabled via the Elks Club, was an instructor at Skane School and the Kennedy work shop, he also was a water safety instructor for 35 years and on the Board of Directors for the Red Cross. Bill was also a recipient of the Carnegie Hero Medal Award. He was predeceased by brothers, James, Michael and Reno, and a sister Sally. Survivors include his children, three daughters, Pamela Micinilio and Nancy Micinilio, both of Bridgeport and Lorraine Mondi and her husband Jeff of Shelton, a son, Bill Micinilio and his wife Cathy, of Trumbull; a brother, Rudolph Micinilio; two sisters, Mary Carey and Rose Cockayne, four grandchildren, Robbie and Joshua Mondi, Catie and Nicholas Micinilio, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment with military honors will follow in St. John Cemetery, Monroe.
