Obituary of John W. McPadden

John Walter McPadden, Sr. passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, December 10, 2011, with his loving family by his side. He was the son of the late Honorable Judge Edward W. and Wanda McPadden of Stratford, CT. He loved his family and enjoyed holiday celebrations and family vacations together. John graduated from Fairfield College Preparatory School and went on to Villanova University where he graduated with a BS in Civil Engineering. He was the District 3 Town Aid Supervisor for the CT State Department of Transportation for 32 years. He was recognized for his superior leadership role as the Project Engineer for several projects including the rebuilding of Route 8 and the Merritt Parkway in Trumbull and the intersection of Interstate-84 and Route 691 in Southington, CT. Both were multi-million dollar construction projects. After retiring from the CDOT, he joined the STV Group, a worldwide engineering firm, as the Resident Engineer for the intersection of Interstate-84 and Route 7 in Danbury and later, for the rebuilding of several bridges known as the mix-master in Waterbury, CT. He retired from the STV Group in 1993. In 1966, John was critically injured in an automobile accident. He suffered a spinal cord severance that resulted in permanent paralysis. Despite his disability, he continued to work until his retirement. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Elaine B. McPadden, his loving and devoted children, Suzanne McLean, E. Marie McPadden, John II and Maria McPadden, and Christopher McPadden; grandchildren Shawn Toomey (Marilyn), Megan McLean Hamilton (Bill), Jeanine Sieranski (Chris), Alexander, John (Jack) III, and Daniel; great grandchildren, Fritz and Greta Toomey and Sharilyn Toomey; and a brother Edward W. McPadden, Jr. He also leaves loving sisters-in-law, Jacqueline McPadden and Emily McPadden, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and godchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Paul and Joseph and son-in-law Josh McLean. The family extends a special thank you to Woody and to all of his faithful friends and neighbors for their kindness and support. Funeral Information Friends and family are invited to attend a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Huntington.
