Obituary of Anthony P. Mariani

Resident of Trumbull Anthony P. Mariani, age 87, beloved husband of Rosita Perez Mariani, of Trumbull, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at St. Vincent Medical Center. Born in Bridgeport on August 7, 1925, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Albina Fraboni Mariani. Mr. Mariani was a United States Army Veteran, serving during World War II. He received a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star Medal, the latter 65 years after his discharge, for the extraordinary bravery he displayed during the Battle of the Bulge. As a result of the wounds he sustained during intense combat on Christmas Eve 1944, he lost his left arm. Before his retirement he was the Associate Chief Procurement Officer at the West Haven Veterans Administration Medical Center, where he worked for more than 30 years. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother, with a kind and generous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Rosita, survivors include a daughter, Patricia Mariani of Washington, DC, a son, Anthony J. Mariani and his wife Carole Chinn-Mariani of Stamford, two cherished grandchildren, Isabella and Alexander Mariani, a sister, Joan Berry and her husband Ronald of Easton, a nephew, William MacDonald, a niece, Juliette Berry-Shimkets, three grand nephews, Darien, Logan and John, as well as several cousins and additional nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Alice Mariani and a nephew, Keith Berry. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Thursday, January 3, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Christ the King Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull.
