Obituary of Antonio Varandas

Antonio Varandas, age 93, of Bridgeport, beloved husband of the late Margarida Varandas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 22, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Soutelo de Aguiar, Portugal on November 12, 1923, he was a son of the late Jose Antonio and Maria dos Santos Varandas. Mr. Varandas was an extremely hard working man who always provided for his family. He found great enjoyment tending to his garden and making his wine. His greatest joy, however, was found in the time he spent with his family. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Maria Persilia Malta. Survivors include eight loving children, Ida Pinto and her husband Acacio of New Canaan, Fatima Pereira and her husband Jose of Monroe, Maria Agostinha Sereno and her husband John of Fairfield, Alsino Varandas of Florida, Anthony Varandas of Bridgeport, Maria Adelia Santana and her husband Oscar of Naugatuck, Jorge Varandas and his wife Jeanette of Florida, Mary-Jo O'Gull and her husband Michael of Monroe and Antonio Pinto and his wife Laurinda of Portugal, twenty cherished grandchildren, twelve adored great grandchildren, eight brothers and sisters and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Shelton. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
