Obituary of Mary T. Dortenzio

Mary Goncar Dortenzio, age 88, longtime resident of Bridgeport and Stratford, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017, with her family by her side. Mary was the loving and devoted wife of Robert Anthony Dortenzio, who she was married to for over 60 years. Mary was born in Stratford CT on August 22, 1928, the daughter of the late Maria Velky Goncar and John Goncar. She moved at a young age to Bridgeport, CT. She attended school at St. John Nepomucene and went on to work in clerical positions at Singer Sewing Machine, the Probate Court in Bridgeport, Reads Department Store, and Fleet Bank. She was also a very involved citizen and volunteered for the PTA in her children’s schools, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church where she was a loyal parishioner, and for the Republican Party in Bridgeport. Mary loved to play games, especially pinochle with her friends at the senior citizens club at her church. In addition to her husband Robert, Mary is survived by her sister Frances Goncar Duh and sister in-law Mary Goncar, her children: Robert, Jr. and wife Mary; Christopher and wife Doreen; Lynn and husband William; and Thomas and wife Patricia. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Marc, Melissa, Christopher, Alexander, Matthew, Molly, Victoria, Mia, and Grace. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her brother William and his wife Charlotte, and her brother John and her brother in-law, Louis. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Mark Church, Stratford for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be private. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 4:00 -8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Yale School of Medicine Eye Center, 40 Temple St., New Haven CT 06510.
