Beloved Mother, Wife and Sister Bethania Urena, age 72, beloved mother, wife, sister, entered eternal rest in her home in the Dominican Republic on October 21, 2011. Prior to moving to the Dominican Republic upon retirement in 2003, she was a resident of Stratford. She was born in the Dominican Republic on October 19, 1939, and moved to the United States with her young family 34 years ago. She had an illustrious career as an educator, in the field of Special Education, obtaining her Masters degree at University of Connecticut, her 6th Year post-Master degree at Southern Connecticut State University. She began work towards a PhD degree at Yale University, also participating for many years in the Yale Teachers Institute summer programs writing curriculum for educational courses. She retired from teaching after 41 years, deciding to enjoy retirement in her beloved town of Samana Bay. Soon after moving to Samana Bay she began work in the community, assisting in the primary school with literacy programs; as devoted benefactor of her local church; and as hospital volunteer, among many other local projects, her desire to help to improve life in this beautiful but poor rural area. She enjoyed a life of service. She was also an avid swimmer and gardener, and loved painting, delighting family and friends with her paintings. She leaves behind her daughters, Luz B. Frymus, and Ingrid L. Hernandez, her sons, Francisco Octavio Taveras, Raul Taveras, and Francisco Jose Taveras, her grandchildren, Matthew and Lauren Frymus, Francisco Octavio Taveras Jr., Shaddy, and Cristina Taveras and Sarah, Alexandra, and Daniel Hernandez, her brothers and sisters, Edward Urena, Nelly Cappozziello, Nelson Urena, Julio Urena, and Gloria Kirkland. Funeral Information Friends and family are invited to call on Sunday, October 30, 2011 from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT. A prayer service will take place at 4:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be private.
