Obituary of Anthony E. Giangrasso

Anthony E. Giangrasso, M. D., age 83, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Bettie Brackett Giangrasso, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013. He was born in Astoria, Long Island on September 9, 1929 and was a son of the late Thomas and Nancy (Giaimo) Giangrasso. The family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut in the early thirties and to Trumbull in 1938. He attended grammar school in Long Hill Trumbull and then later Central High in Bridgeport. In 1948 he graduated from Williston Academy in East Hampton, Massachusetts. Following Prep School, Dr. Giangrasso attended Georgetown University and later Fairfield University where he received his B. S. Degree Cum Laude in 1953. The following year Dr. Giangrasso received an Assistantship in Biology at Boston College. In 1954 he was accepted into Creighton School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska where he received his Medical Doctorate in 1958. In 1960 he opened his office in Trumbull for General Practice. Dr. Giangrasso served on the Staff of Saint Vincents Medical Center as a full attending physician in the Department of Family Medicine. He continued to practice family medicine out of his family home until his retirement in 2000. He also served as Police Physician for the Trumbull Police Department as well as State Police Surgeon. In 1968 Dr. Giangrasso was appointed Assistant Medical Examiner for the State of Connecticut and served in this capacity until 2008. He was a member of many Medical Societies, including Bridgeport Medical Society, Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians, The American Academy of Family Physicians, The National Association of Medical Examiners, Fairfield County Medical Association and the Fairfield County Detective Conference. In addition to his devoted wife Bettie of 57 years, survivors include two daughters, Valentina Giangrasso-Gryniuk and her husband Jonathan of Altamont, NY and Cassandra Basque and her husband Ron of Milford, CT and five grandchildren, Tony and Evan Casper and Rebekah, Timothy and Daniel Basque, a sister, Bessie Butto of Trumbull and many nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his son, Thomas Giangrasso, a sister, Marion Butto and a brother, Nicholas T. Giangrasso. Funeral Information Friends can greet the family on Tuesday, February 19, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. A prayer service will take place on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
