Obituary of Geraldine M. Sloat

SLOAT Geraldine M. Sloat, age 56, of Trumbull passed away on Friday, December 30, 2011, after a 7 year courageous battle with cancer, at her residence with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas H. Sloat. Born in Bridgeport on September 11, 1955, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Fleming Carolan. She was employed by St. Vincents Medical Center in Bridgeport as a Registered Nurse and later held the position of Director of Nursing at various Health Care Facilities. She was a former President of Trumbull Loves Children and had been very active in the lives of her three sons holding various positions in the Boy Scouts seeing two of them attain the rank of Eagle Scout and the other Life Rank. She, along with her late husband, founded the Trumbull Youth Wrestling Program. She was also a member of the Gaelic American Club and was a woman strongly committed to her Catholic faith which played a major part in her life. While growing up in Bridgeport she participated in competitive Irish Step Dancing for 10 years which she carried into her later life. She is survived by her three sons, Sean T. Sloat of Trumbull, Brian J. Sloat of Fort Bragg, NC, and Adam R. Sloat of Trumbull; her five brothers, Thomas Carolan and his wife Marsha of Michigan, Paul Carolan and his wife Cathy of New London, Richard Carolan and his wife Julie of California, Patrick Carolan and his wife Stella of Stratford and Sean Carolan and his wife Gwen of Pennsylvania. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. in St. Theresa Church, Trumbull for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may call on Monday afternoon from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
