Obituary of Arturo E. Schmidt

Arturo E. Schmidt, age 89, of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Beatriz Visani Schmidt, died peacefully on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born on February 26, 1923, in Cordoba, Argentina, he was a son of the late Carlos Friedrich Schmidt and Betty Maria Nauer Schmidt. Arturo graduated from the Colegio Adventista Del Plata with a Ministerial and Business Degrees in 1943 in Argentina and later completed post graduate courses at Andrews University in Michigan . In 1954 he was ordained as minister and began his career as an evangelist with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in his native Argentina. He dedicated his life to the preaching the gospel of Jesus and His Second Coming, and the teachings of the SDA Church. He assisted the church in evangelism and church ministry beginning in Argentina, and then Paraguay, Chile, Peru, and throughout South America. In 1970 he became part of the Euro-Africa Division in Switzerland, serving throughout Europe and Africa, and coming to the USA in 1975 to the headquarters of the church, General Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists, in Maryland from where he traveled throughout the globe preaching his message of hope and redemption, spending a significant number of years dedicated to working in the Islamic communities, in Egypt, Russia, India, countries in Africa and Asia, to name just a few. During his last years he volunteered his time to area ministries in Entre Rios, Argentina and Bridgeport, CT. Survivors include his three children, Carlos Schmidt and his wife Janice, Roy Schmidt and his wife Cindy, and Lisie Orjuela and her husband Hernando, six cherished grandchildren, Justin, Nicholas, Sabrina, Roxanna, Alessandro and Carina; a sister Ines Posse and her husband Raul; sisters-in-law Eva Visani and Loida Schmidt, as well as many, many nieces and nephews. Funeral Information Friends are invited to greet the family at the funeral service on Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 4:00 p.m. directly in the Bridgeport Spanish Seventh-Day Adventist Church at 980 Sylvan Avenue, Bridgeport, CT. Donations Information In lieu of flowers and to honor his memory we will be setting up a Scholarship fund in his name at the Universidad del Plata, Entre Rios, Argentina.
