Obituary of Joseph R. Garofalo

Joseph R. Garofalo, age 92, of Ansonia and formerly of Bridgeport, passed away on Sunday, December 16, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Esther Giannini Garofalo. Born in Bridgeport, on March 9, 1920, he was a son of the late Pasquale and Frances Gabrielle Garofalo of Campobasso, Abruzzi, Italy. A US Army Veteran, Joe worked in construction for the Anthony Julian Construction Company of Bridgeport for many years before his retirement. A dedicated parishioner of St. Margarets Shrine, Bridgeport for many years, Joe read the bible daily for many years. He was a past president of the St. Margaret Shrine Friendship Club, enjoyed gardening, and also loved to watch the horses at Saratoga and always enjoyed a good meal with his family, homemade wine and a fine cigar. He also enjoyed listening to the Italian House Party every Sunday. In addition to his beloved wife of 63 years, Esther, other survivors include his sons, John Garofalo of Freehold, NY, Joseph Garofalo and his wife Antoinette of Monroe and Paul Garofalo and his wife Donna of Ansonia; son-in-law, Al Sholomicky of Naugatuck and six grandchildren, Alex Sholomicky and Lisa Sholomicky, both of Naugatuck, Sara Weld and her husband Cory of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Joseph, Anthony, and Angela Garofalo, all of Monroe; a sister, Florence Hvizdo of Stratford; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan Garofalo Sholomicky, two brothers, Michael and Edward Garofalo and a sister, Mary Ferraro. Funeral Information Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull and at 11:15 a.m. in St. Margaret Shrine, Bridgeport for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Monroe. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
