Obituary of James P. Powers

Resident of Stratford James Patrick Powers (58) lost his battle with cancer on August 3, 2011, soon after accomplishing his goal of escorting his daughter down the aisle on her wedding day. Jim said it was the best day of his life. He was born in Bridgeport, CT on April 8, 1953, the eldest child of William Patrick Powers and Ruth Brown Powers. He spent his childhood in Milford and Monroe before moving to Stratford and graduating from Bunnell High School. He later earned an associates degree from Housatonic Community College. Jim and his wife Betty Blake Powers celebrated 30 years of marriage and are the proud parents of daughter Jessica Powers and her husband Rory Miller and son Blake Powers and Jill DAngelo. He is survived by his father William and sisters Patricia and her partner Pat, Kathleen, and Mary and her husband Tim as well as niece and nephew Laurie and Matthew Glovaski. Jim was a 36 year employee of Sikorsky Aircraft and also spent many years as a Real Estate Associate at Caselli Real Estate and later Prudential Real Estate. Jim was an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed collecting sports memorabilia. Through his experiences at the Cricket Hotdog Stand in his youth, he became the expert griller for all occasions. Jim played volleyball on Sikorsky teams for many years. He was the master of the crossword puzzle, backgammon, cribbage and dominoes. He loved music and introduced his children to every genre. Jims remarkable memory allowed him to recall details of concerts, experiences, sporting events and conversations, which he was always willing to share with all. Jims greatest joy was spending time with his family. Jim was a devoted husband and a loving father to his children, niece and nephew. His family and friends were his most treasured possessions. Rest now. Funeral Information Funeral services will take place on Saturday, August 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT.
