Obituary of Marie Ann Nimke

Marie Ann Nimke entered eternal life peacefully on January 7, 2013 at age 92. Beloved mother of William Bill (Melissa) Nimke of Mequon, WI. Loving Nana of Meridith, Evan, Charlie and Will Nimke. Preceded in death by her husband of 53 years William A. Nimke, and two sisters, Gloria Meyer and Lee Bottani. Beloved sister of Frances DiMenna of Trumbull, CT.

Ann was a long-time resident of Bridgeport, CT, and most recently, resided at The Lighthouse of Mequon in Wisconsin. Marie Antoinetta DeFina was born in Bridgeport, CT, in 1920. She was the eldest of four sisters in a family raised by parents Joseph DeFina and Angelina (Iacobelli) DeFina. Ann attended Central High School followed by Butler Business School and the University of Bridgeport. From 1943 to 1955 she worked for the Remington Arms Co. in Bridgeport as an interviewer and secretary. In 1953 she married William A. Nimke of Torrington, CT, and together, they had one child. In 1963 she returned to work as a bank teller for the Peoples Savings Bank until 1975. Ann worked as a secretary for the Jewish Community Center in Bridgeport. In 1980 she began working for the State of Connecticut in various office capacities, including that as an administrative secretary. She retired in 1991. In 2005, Ann and her husband Bill moved to Wisconsin to be nearer to their son and grandchildren. Ann, however, will be remembered for her unfailing love of family, her radiant smile, and her ability to befriend seemingly anyone with whom she came in contact. She was warm, welcoming, and generous to everyone she knew. She worked tirelessly and selflessly both inside and outside of her home. Even as she worked for much of her adult life outside of her home, she was the consummate devoted daughter, wife, and mother.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Lighthouse and also Hospice Advantage for the wonderful care and compassion they provided her.
