Obituary of Shirley B. Knecht

Shirley (Bibbins) Knecht, age 95, of Trumbull passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 2, 2024 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Lester R. Knecht. Born in Easton on July 31, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Evelyn (Curtis) Bibbins. A graduate of Bassick High Class of 1945, Shirley later attended the Bridgeport School of Nursing and was proud to have been a member of the first graduating class there. Early in Mrs. Knecht's career she worked as a Registered Nurse for the Bridgeport and Trumbull Visiting Nurses Association, Trumbull Ambulance and Trumbull School System. After her marriage, she worked alongside her husband as a bookkeeper and accountant at Knecht's Garage, Inc. where she accumulated 63 years of dedicated service.

Survivors include her children, Stanley Knecht and his wife Sally, Richard Knecht, Donald Knecht and Ruth Linley, nine grandchildren, Shannon, Baillie, Jacob, Andrew, Samuel and Sandra Knecht, Albert Linley III and his wife Alexa, Jamie Weid and her husband John and Mathew Linley, her adored great grandchildren, Logan, Michael and Isabella Linley, her brother, David Bibbins, her sisters-in-law, Jane Knecht, Ethel Knecht and Dottie Bibbins as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her beloved husband Lester, she was also predeceased by her brother, Winthrop Bibbins, her brothers-in-law, George, Elliot, Ernest and David Knecht and her sisters-in-law, Jessie Knecht, Jean Knecht, Nancy Bibbins and Edith Vitale.

Funeral Services will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 2 p.m. in Trumbull Congregational Church, 3115 Reservoir Ave. Trumbull with Rev. Timothy Hare officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in Trumbull Burial Grounds, Trumbull. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday in the Church from 1 p.m. until the start of services.
