Obituary of Judy C. Otis

Judy C. (Lengyel) Otis, age 74, of Trumbull, beloved wife of Joseph B. Otis, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026 with her loving husband by her side. Born on December 28, 1951, in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Elizabeth (Hubiska) Lengyel.

Growing up in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport, she had a wonderful childhood.  Judy went through the Bridgeport school system, taking many accelerated classes and was elected to the national honor society every year. After high school, Judy graduated from Southern CT State College, where she had many great memories and served for three years as class treasurer. After college she had a number of jobs including substitute teaching and as an executive secretary. 

When she was nine, she joined the St. Ann Loyalaires Junior Drum and Bugle Corp and from then on drum corps would become a big part of her life. While attending Bassick High School she joined the ND-ettes, an all-girl Drum and Bugle Corp, where she would meet a group of lifelong friends who formed a sisterhood that they called KLUB. After 30 years of not having played her horn, she joined The Park City Pride for a one-time Alumni Show and ending up playing for the next 14 years.

Judy lived on the North shore of Hawaii for two and a half years. Upon returning home she joined the U.S. Post Office, where she worked as a letter carrier for 23 years. She was a member of their union, Branch 32 of the NALC and served as secretary for 23 years. It was there that she met one of her dearest friends Aldrena Belcher.  In 1998 while attending the National Convention she went on a date with the person who became the love of her life, her husband Joe. 

Survivors include her devoted husband of 24 years, Joseph, her brother Louis Lengyel and his wife Donna, her nephew Christopher Lengyel and his wife Melissa, their sons Andrew, Michael and David, her sister-in-law Kathleen (Otis) Mauer, her husband William, their daughter Erin and husband Jacob Holzer, as well as many dear friends. In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her sister-in-law Mary Ann Lengyel. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 22, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church, 5301 Main St., Trumbull. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Saturday morning from 8:30 – 10:00 am in the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd., Trumbull.
