Obituary of Ida Varandas Pinto
Ida Varandas Pinto, 79, of Monroe, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on July 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 2, 1947, in Vilarinho de São Bento, Portugal, Ida was the beloved daughter of the late Antonio Varandas and Margarida Varandas Rodrigues. She was the eldest of nine siblings, all born and raised in Portugal before immigrating to the United States to build their families and pursue new opportunities.
For 59 wonderful years, Ida was the devoted wife of Acacio Pinto. Together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and cherished traditions while raising their daughter and son.
Ida dedicated her life to her family. She had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcome and loved. She found her greatest joy in cooking delicious meals, gathering loved ones around the table, and creating lasting memories. She will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, warm hospitality, impeccable sense of style, beautiful home decor, and her talent for shopping. Her greatest love, however, was always her family.
Some of Ida's happiest moments were spent hosting holiday celebrations, tending to her garden, watching her favorite novelas, joking around with her husband, and simply being surrounded by those she loved. Her passions were grounded in family, food, and making memories.
Ida was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Margarida Varandas, and her beloved sister, Priscila Varandas Malta.
Ida leaves behind her loving husband, Acacio Pinto; her children, Elizabeth Pinto Santos and Steve Pinto; her cherished grandchildren, Brianna Dos Santos, Isabella Dos Santos, Thomas Pinto, and Margaret Pinto; her siblings, Fatima Pereira, Maria Sereno, Alcino Varandas, Antonio Varandas, Maria Santana, Jorge Varandas, and Mary Jo O'Gull; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever treasure her memory.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. directly in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. At Ida's request, all other services will be private. Arrangements entrusted to the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Per Ida's request, in lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis. TN 38105.
