Obituary of Edward H. Vizzo

Edward H. Vizzo, 98, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 20, 2026 in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Betty D. (Bottillo) Vizzo. Born in Bridgeport on October 17, 1927, Edward was the son of the late Vincent and Rose (Vallello) Vizzo of Calabria, Italy. 

Edward is survived by his three daughters, Elizabeth Babollah (Hassan); Janice Vizzo (Thomas Mullarkey); AmyMarie Vizzo-Paniccia (Guy), his beloved 7 granddaughters, Andrea (Mike), Gina (Joe), Elida, Brittany (Chris), Christina (Alex), Angela and Michelle (Thomas).  He also leaves behind his cherished 12 great grandchildren, Demetri, Muhammad, Owen, Mia, Lina, Alessia, Haleemah, Nusaybah, Ali Zayn, Marianna, Chloe, and Avery. In addition to his beloved wife Betty of 67 years, he was also predeceased by his brothers, Vincent, Anthony, Patsy and Andrew and his sisters, Diamond, Julia, Elvira, Evelyn, Caroline, Angelina, Rosemarie and Catherine. He was also a caring and loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

Edward served in the US Army from 1947-1952.  Upon his return he worked for Stanley Works and then Carpenter Steel (CarTech) where he retired after 40 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family as well as playing cards with his brothers-in-law and friends.

Edward loved helping others, whether it was lending a hand to anyone who asked for support with a project at their home or assisting other members of the Roma Club to plan events including the Columbus Day Parade. Edward received multiple civic awards in recognition of his community service. He and his wife Betty hosted a breakfast for the Marine Corp. band at their home and he also volunteered at St. Margaret Shrine for the annual Italian Feast.

Edward’s passion for helping others started at a young age when his mom and dad passed away months apart and he was left to maintain the 4-story home his parents purchased upon arriving from Italy. He was always a hard worker, a great provider, and a wonderful son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be truly missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Margaret Shrine, 2523 Park Ave., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
