Obituary of Adeline Cataldo

Adeline Mae Pietrantonio Cataldo, 100, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 19, 2026. Born in Bridgeport on December 30, 1925, to Mary Cocivi Pietrantonio and Luigi (Louis) Pietrantonio, Adeline was the daughter and granddaughter of Italian immigrants and lived a life that reflected the promise of the American Dream. She grew up on Wheeler Ave, Bridgeport, in a tight-knit family with her three sisters, Ida, Isabele and Rose. Together in the kitchen they were formidable and known as "The 4 Generals". She spent childhood summers at her grandparents' Stratfield Farm in Fairfield, a place that rooted her in the values she would carry throughout her century of life. She graduated from Central High School. During World War II, she supported the war-effort working at Vought Aircraft in Stratford, CT where the legendary F4U Corsair aircraft was manufactured. In 1947, she married her beloved husband, Gaspare "Jerry" Cataldo, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who went on to serve his community as a Fairfield firefighter for 30 years. Adeline worked as an office manager for a local ophthalmologist before retiring in the 1980s. A dedicated public servant, she was an election volunteer who was recognized as a polling place worker in Fairfield for many years. She and her husband were involved with many charitable organizations including The American Legion, VFW, Knights of Columbus, Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters. Germana Schwaben Society, Germana Schwaben Seniors, CT Burns Care Foundation, Disabled American Veterans and Italian Scholarship Committee of University of Bridgeport. She was the heart of her family, a matriarch in the truest sense, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose devotion to family expressed itself in ways both grand and small. She is remembered for large and festive gatherings, treasured family recipes, a remarkable memory, and a love of family that never wavered. She never missed a birthday, never forgot a card. She was predeceased by her husband, Gaspare, her daughter Lisa, and her three sisters Ida Piazza (Frank), Isabele Faris (Nick), and Rose Napoli (Charles) and was the last of her generation. She is survived by her son Gregory and his wife Rose Alma, along with her grandchildren Tyler and wife Ashley, Leigh and husband Justin, Brian and wife Nikki Lee, great-grandchildren Adeline, Lila, Maribel and Sylus, and an extended family of nephews, nieces and their children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026 at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Assumption Church, 545 Stratfield Rd., Fairfield for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Fairfield. Friends may call on Monday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
