Obituary of Hilda Lourdes Borges

Hilda Lourdes Borges, age 99, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of the late Jaime Diegas Alves, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 27, 1926 in New Bedford, MA she was a daughter of the late Antonio Joao Borges and Albertina Borges.

At the age of 5, along with her family, Hilda moved to Portugal where she would stay until the age of 64. While raising her family in Portugal, along with her husband, they operated a General Store and Tavern in Vila do Conde. It was there that she instilled the importance of hard work and treating others with kindness. She was a devout parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Church. She very active in the prayer groups and was a long-time member of the Cursillo.

Above all things in life, she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Nothing was more important than the care and love of her family. She was instrumental in the raising of all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to babysit and spend her days with family. The values she instilled and unconditional love she gave will forever live in the hearts of all who loved her.

Survivors include her three loving daughters, Alfredina DeSousa and her husband Raul, Tina Goncalves and Anabella Henriques and her husband Gilberto, daughter-in-law, Maria Alves, eight cherished grandchildren, Peter DeSousa (Ines), Claudia Goss (Nathan), Bruno DeSousa, Teresa Rhodes (Logan), Patricia Goncalves, Francisco Henriques, Stacy Reinoso (Carlos) and Valter Alves, 12 adored great grandchildren, Luke, Avery, Bailey, Payton, Reagan, Presley, Adalynn, Kaden, Andreas, Jaime, Rachel and Noah, a precious great great granddaughter, Lucia, a sister, Albertina Couto, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Joao Borges Alves, a daughter, Bella Maria Alves and brother Antonio Borges, a sister, Presiosa Borges and son-in-law, Jose Goncalves.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 20, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Stratford. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
