Obituary of Joseph A. Martire

Joseph A. Martire, age 77, of Shelton, beloved husband of Marilia Morais Martire, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2026 with his loving family by his side. Born in Bridgeport on September 6, 1948, he was a son of the late Vincent and Carmella Milano Martire. A U.S. Army veteran, Joe began his career at Standard Glass of Bridgeport in 1968, becoming owner in 1983 for 40 years until retiring in 2023. Joe was well-known throughout the Greater Bridgeport area for his rare skill as a glazier. Joe was also a member of the Fairfield Special Police for over 20 years and spent the last several years as Supervisor of the FPD Specials. Having grown up in Fairfield, it was a position he held and a uniform he wore with great pride. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather, and his personality and big smile made everyone want to be around him. He enjoyed classic cars (having restored several), music of the 1950's and 60's, golf, and trips to Myrtle Beach. Being with family and extended family is what made him happy and he selflessly dedicated his life to ensure their well-being. He supported his sons and grandchildren as a coach and great fan from youth sports to college. His grandchildren were a special kind of joy for him, and the values he modeled will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, Marilia, Joe leaves behind his three loving sons, Erik and wife Heather, Jeffrey and wife Nina, and Mark and wife Jenna; seven cherished grandchildren: Adam, Mia, Ella, Claire, Giuliana, Mark, and Joseph; siblings Rose Artymowski, Vincent Martire and wife Jean, Richard Martire and wife Tina, Anthony Martire and wife Joan, and Linda Lapera and fiancé Mark Johnson, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Martha Mastrone, and brothers-in-law, Frank Mastrone and Richard Artymowski. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave, Shelton. Interment will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends can greet the family on Friday, April 17, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd, Trumbull.
