Obituary of James M. Pytko

James Martin Pytko, "Jim" age 54 of Derby, CT, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his loving friends and family.

Born in Bridgeport on September 22, 1971, he was the beloved son of the late Martin and Franciene (Mihalik) Pytko, and was a longtime resident of Derby.

He graduated from Shelton High School, class of 1989, and received a Bachelor's degree from Southern Connecticut State University. He continued his education, earning a Master's degree in Accounting from Quinnipiac University. Jim was a CPA, and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), Connecticut chapter.

He was a valued professional at Kaskie Plude & Company LLC, Accountants and Advisors, in Monroe, until his retirement in 2024.

Jim had a lifelong love of the ocean and marine life, especially turtles. He enthusiastically supported efforts to maintain their health, welfare, habitat, and awareness for improving their quality of life. He had a connection and affection for animals of all kinds, especially for his Russian tortoise Sheldon.

Jim had a passion for music, as both a listener and a musician. His superpower was recognizing any song on the first note. He enjoyed playing renditions of classic rock on his electric guitar, and following local bands at nearby venues with his friends.

His adrenaline rush came from driving the Hellcat "Sarge," which never failed to make a grand entrance.

He will be deeply missed by his longtime partner Leah Cefaloni, as his love and companionship can never be replaced. He will be remembered and missed by loyal friend Tony Borea, who was like a brother to Jim in every way that mattered.

Jim is also survived by Francine Anziano, Michael Anziano, Victoria Anziano Loudermilk, Marty Poniatowski, Barbara Johnson, Jackie Sanz, and many other loving family members. He had a wide circle of friends who valued his friendship as well as his unique brand of humor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. meeting directly at St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave, Shelton. Entombment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery Garden Mausoleum, Stratford. Relatives and friends can greet the family on Monday, April 6, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Rd, Trumbull.
