Obituary of Sheri McCarthy
Sheri Diane McCarthy of Huntington passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at St. Vincent’s Hospital. Sheri was born on September 4, 1944 in Bridgeport, CT to Wilfred and Inez Dominguez. She was the wife of 62 years to her “Zip” John J. McCarthy Jr. together since May of 1959. Sheri attended Madison School in Bridgeport and graduated from Central High School Class of 1963.
Sheri was an LPN who was a recipient of a Notable Care and Compassion Award among one of several awards she received. She worked her entire career at St. Joseph’s Manor until retiring in 2014. Sheri loved her patients and went above and beyond for many of them. Sheri’s patients loved her just as much.
Besides her husband John, she is survived by her children, John (Bagie) and his fiancé Bernadette Casson of Prospect, Michael and his partner Claire, daughter Kimberly Giogios Moehling and her husband Don from Illinois and her daughter Deborah McCarthy and her husband Brian of Huntington. Sheri leaves nine grandchildren Michael, April Marie, Steven, Emma Rose, Bella, Amber, Madison, Christian and Autumn Sailor. She also leaves behind ten great grandchildren Giana, Adalyn, Koda and Zeo, Jackson and Lyla, Graham, Norah, Dalia and Jeremiah John Carter. Sheri was lovingly called Mama by family members.
Sheri was predeceased by her sister Deborah Belasco and leaves her husband Dave and her children David, Mikki Marie and Anjelina.
She also leaves behind her brother-in-law Richard McCarthy and his wife Judith from Stratford, her Uncle Richie Dominguez, Aunt Dolly Dominguez, Aunt Rosie Siwy and Aunt Anna Dominguez who was like a sister to her, along with many cousins and friends.
John and Sheri enjoyed going to Myrtle Beach every year in May for their anniversary and spent hours upon hours walking the beach looking for shark teeth. She collected hundreds over the years.
There will never be another woman like our mother to walk this earth. The endless amounts of sacrifices she gave during her lifetime are immeasurable.
