Obituary of Floriano Guedes Videira
On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Floriano Guedes Videira peacefully passed away to his heavenly home, surrounded by his family. Floriano was born in Vilas Boas, Portugal, on September 20, 1939.
In his younger days, he taught himself to play accordion and would travel town to town performing for others. Floriano served in the Portuguese Army and the Portuguese Colonial War in Angola from 1962 to 1966. Soon after in 1967, he married his dearly loved wife, Carminda, and emigrated to the United States.
Residing in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Floriano formed Videira’s Paving with his brother, Juveniano. He later returned home to Vilas Boas in 1993 where he spent his days tending to their vineyards and cultivating their farmland. Devoted to his faith and community, Floriano was an active pillar of his local church, Igreja de Vilas Boas, and was always prepared to lend a helping hand to any member of his hometown. He immensely enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; sharing stories over a meal paired with his homemade wine; and cheering for his favorite soccer team, F.C. Porto, who he was a passionate fan of for many years.
One of Floriano’s greatest pleasures was the wine cellar where he proudly made one of the best wines in town. Anyone who passed by was invited in to enjoy a glass of his famous wine and a slice of presunto. He also loved listening to his family play various instruments as they carried on his love and appreciation for Portuguese music.
In addition to his beloved wife Carminda of 59 years, he will forever be remembered with love by his children, Fernando Videira and his wife Julie, Susana Adams and her husband Henry Sr., and Floriano Videira Jr. and his wife Sofia; his grandchildren, Rachel Turley and her husband Brandon, Megan Videira, Henry Adams Jr., and Tomás Videira; his siblings, Mary (Nuno), Rosa (David), Gloria, Teresa (Domingos), Marina, Tony (Zulmira), John (Quina); and his sisters-in-law, Maria Videira and Eleanor Videira, other brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, especially John N. Guedes. He was predeceased by his parents, Joaquim and Herminia (Guedes) Videira; his brothers, Julio and Juveniano; and his sister, Dalva Gomes. Floriano carried laughter in his eyes and humor in his soul: he effortlessly made the world around him a little lighter. He will be missed by all who had the great honor of knowing him.
Services will be held in Vilas Boas along with a Seven Day Mass service on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at 6:00 P.M. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport, Connecticut. To leave an online condolence please visit www.abriola.com.
