Obituary of Maria Jose Costa Morais

Maria Jose Costa Morais, age 62, of Bridgeport, beloved wife of Jose Candido Morais, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 16, 2026 in the comfort of her home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle. Born in Anelhe, Chaves, Portugal, on March 5, 1964, she was the daughter of the late Amandio Alves Costa and Elisa Ramos Calvao.

Along with her family, Maria immigrated to the United States in 1982, first living in Queens, New York before settling in Bridgeport. She was a retired employee of the former St. Joseph’s Manor in Trumbull, having 35 years of dedicated service before her retirement.

Maria treasured time spent with her family, especially her children and grandchildren. She shared stories of growing up in Portugal and instilled many traditions to her children and grandchildren. The unconditional love she gave will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed.

Survivors include her two loving children, a son, Bruno Miguel Morais and his wife Denise Theresa Morais, and a daughter, Vanessa Olivia Morais and her fiancé William Lyman Andrews, two adored grandchildren, Natalie Grace Morais and Jacob Leo Morais, two brothers, João Costa and his wife Maria Nazare, and Marco Paulo Costa and his wife Maria Isabel, as well as many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 at 10:30 a.m. directly in Our Lady of Fatima Church, 429 Huntington Rd., Bridgeport.
