Obituary of Dorothy Marie Bietsch

Dorothy M. Bietsch, 89, of Trumbull, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026 in her home while under the care of her family and Connecticut Hospice.

Dorothy was born in Brooklyn NY, and graduated from Stratford HS. She spent 20 years working as a nursing and administrative assistant in public health. She was an avid bridge player, bird watcher, reader, UConn women's basketball fan and pet lover.

She was a loving and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

She is survived by her 3 children, Karl (Irene), Alan (Michele), and Emily (Bippy), and her husband of almost 70 years, Fred. She was the proud grandmother of Russell, Allie (Matt), Klark (Emily), Chris (Asia), and Maddie and great grandchildren, Olivia, Owen and Teddy. She is also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family members.

She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Dorothy Marsh and her brother, Richard Marsh and his wife Dorothy.

Dorothy had been given the nickname Gibby by her granddaughter Allie and it stuck from then on. The name Gibby stemmed from the inability of a child being able to say grandmother and transformed into something much more. It became synonymous with warmth, care, love, charm, wit, intellect, and grit. Her love and warmth came in the shape of putting others' needs before her own. Her wit came from always having an unexpected joke to lighten the mood. All those fortunate to know her will carry her love and memories always. Before her passing she was asked what she was most proud of and Gibby responded with "I am most proud that my children appreciate me and that they are kind people."

In lieu of flowers, Gibby's wish was for donations to be made to the Nichols United Methodist Church in Trumbull, CT (nicholsumc.org)
