Obituary of William Francis Holsworth
William (Bill) Francis Holsworth, age 89, of Monroe, beloved husband of Margaret Gentile Holsworth, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026 with his loving family by his side. Born in Bridgeport on March 21, 1936, he was the son of the late Theodore and Gertrude Nelson Holsworth. Bill was a proud U.S. Army veteran.
A graduate of Western Connecticut State University, Bill devoted more than 45 years as a long-time educator for the City of Bridgeport. He began his career as a teacher at Maplewood Elementary School and went on to serve in several schools across the district, shaping the lives of countless students along the way. Bill was especially proud to conclude his distinguished career as principal of Maplewood School returning to where his journey in education first began. He will be remembered as a compassionate and committed educator who provided his students not only with knowledge, but also with confidence, encouragement, and the tools they needed to succeed in life. He believed deeply in the potential of every child, and his dedication and integrity earned him the lasting respect and admiration of colleagues, students, and families alike.
Above all else, Bill was a devoted, loving husband, father, and grandfather. His greatest joy was his family. He cherished every moment spent with them, especially the treasured time shared with his grandchildren. The unconditional love he gave and the values he instilled will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In addition to Margaret, his beloved wife of 55 years, he is survived by his two loving children, William T. Holsworth and Tracy Broomer and his three cherished grandchildren, Thomas and Matthew Broomer, and Isabella Holsworth; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by five brothers and two sisters.
