Mr Holsworth was a great teacher: Here’s a memory I want to share: Did you ever have Mr. Holsworth as a teacher at Maplewood? My sister just told me he passed away.
Yes, as a matter of fact he sponsored a field trip to The Metropolitan Opera. We went to see the opera “Carmen” how do I remember? The field trip was April 5,1968. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated on April 4, 1968. It was a wild day in NYC. Mr. Holsworth managed to get us through the crowds safely on our way to the opera. We got back home very late. My parents went nuts and then they told me, no more field trips for me. The next field trip was NYC to see 2001 Space Odyssey. I didn’t get to go. I was in 8th grade at Maplewood.

Dear Holsworth Family ,
My Dad worked as a Teacher and Principal in Bridgeport and knew Bill. My Dad had also worked at Maplewood School. As a kid in the back seat of our station wagon riding up Purdy Hill Rd I would here my Dad say
" there goes Willie Holsworth in his thunderbird."
May Bill rest in peace. With Sympathy,
Michael J. Magut + Family

To the family of "Mr. Holsworth":
As soon as our family arrived in Bridgeport from Southern Italy in the spring of 1969, those of us of age were enrolled in Maplewood School. Myself and a couple of my siblings had the honor of knowing Mr. Holsworth. We loved his firm and caring ways. We came from a strict school environment and we respected him immensely. Within a short time, we learned the language and blended in with the rest of the students. Mr. Holsworth's presence helped us feel comfortable in a strange new world. My brother was especially close to him and appreciated all his guidance while in 6-8 grade. By coincidence, they eventually became neighbors in Monroe...Full circle...may Mr. Holsworth rest in peace and many thanks for all the good deeds he performed while wearing the EDUCATOR hat. Well Done!
Our deepest condolences to you all,
With gratitude, former students: John Sanzo, Angela (Sanzo) Cordery and Theresa (Sanzo) Valenti

My memory of Bill goes way back to when Billy and Tracy were little and our girls, Tracy and my daughter Shannon, became best friends. I remember Bill always smiling and kind at various school events we went to. . Throughout the years we bumped into Bill and Marge in various restaurants or shops in Monroe and Bill always had a smile and/or a funny story to tell about the kids. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. My sincere condolences and sympathy go out to family and friends!
